Building  on its many successful past collaborations supporting the visual arts in Canada, PIA has selected two exciting projects for the coming year. These projects will showcase the diversity of the Toronto art community; strengthen Toronto's cultural profile on a global scale; support emerging artists, and celebrate our multiculturalism.

Partners in Art + OCAD

In conjunction with OCAD, PIA is launching a new and ambitious project that has the potential to reach across national boundaries, and between communities within Toronto. Called Twinning Artists -- Twinning Cities --- for its goal of matching artists, cities and cultural groups --- this three-year venture will produce a series of partnerships between a Canadian artist and a foreign artist. Each partnership will create a show that will debut at the Professional Gallery at OCAD and then travel to the guest artist's home country. The international artists selected will come from emergent art communities: India (2011), Brazil or Argentina (2012), and China (2013) are potential partners.

Partners in Art +  MoCCA

The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) will collaborate with PIA in presenting their biennial group exhibition of work by contemporary artists living in Toronto. Titled TORONTO010:bHereNOW, this survey exhibition is intended to reflect the beat and pulse of contemporary art produced in the GTA. TORONTO010:bHereNOW will include work by prominent artists whose practices may be well-known and others who may be up-and-coming. There is a very strong case to be made for showcasing Toronto artists, who are every bit as strong as those in Montreal and Vancouver but who do not have the same collective or individual strength of profile.
